EL Kade is one of the oldest shops in Balangoda and a prominent trading house with a very illustrious history in the city. The original owner was Mr. EL Fernando and the father of the current owner, Mr. E.G.H.N Fernando. It was registered on 1-11-1943 under A 1215 in the Ratnapura district during the British rule (1943). It was the first supermarket in Balangoda and was in business before the arrival of major supermarkets like Food City, Keells, Arpico, Spar.

Mr. E.G.H.N Fernando, a leading businessman in Balangoda town, is the current owner of E.L Kade. This business has been in existence since 1943 and was managed by Mr. E.A.L Fernando from 1943 to 1966. From 1966 to 1976, Mr. E.A.L. Fernando and Mr. E.G.H.N. Fernando were the managers. Then from 1976 to the present, Mr. E.G.H.N. Fernando has been managing this business continuously.
This business is popular among the community with the short name E.L Kade and has been doing business with a good reputation under the efficient staff and good management.
